Earth Below

by Mike McTavish

It's happening again
I can't stop it
I don't know when
They pushed me down
When I rise
I wipe their spit from my face
Wipe these tears from my eyes
I can't understand it
They beat me with prejudice cries
If knowledge is what I lack
I know I am somewhat wise
My voice trails off into the distance
I have to let my voice be heard
I only have one chance to make my life right
I don't know why
But I'm living in a giant fight
I must be heard
I will be heard
All this suffering must end
Once a person knows who I am
I guarantee a dastardly trend
The only one who understands me
Is me
My shadow has run
That's it
I'm DONE
My teeth have been worn down by grit
Of anger after the sun
And at least I know
I'm treated as if I'm already
In the earth below
