Quiet Strength

by Rachelle Estar Zerebeski

Running

Tumbling

Flowing

Cool and refreshing

Absorbing

The warmth of the sun

The cool of the wind

Adapting

That is how the stream flows

Moving

Caressing

Ever changing

Like a soft and gentle friend

Or a powerful foe

I run through forest

And barren land

Giving life to nature

Supporting

Sustaining

Flowing

Ever flowing

Transient, perhaps

Never standing long in one place

Yet never really gone

I am the stream

That follows

Where others have gone

Staying in the path

The well-worn groove

But as I grow stronger

Building

On what others have given me

I can move

Alone

In my own power

Finding old pathways

And making new ones

I can be quiet

Unseen

Hidden

A quiet strength

Or sometimes

I can grow

Beyond what you expect

No longer quiet

Or hidden

But still as strong

Or even stronger

Than before

I can support you

If you let me

If you listen

I will sing to you

If you trust me

I can carry you

And show you all

That I have seen

The stream

Is not weak

Nor frail

The stream is strong

Adjusting

No matter where I am

Where we are

I can carry you

In my arms

In my strength

If you let me
