Hi, My name is Mike. I am from a planet called earth. A long time ago, the atmosphere "shorted out" as it were, and we were stuck on a planet without atmosphere. Many people died, but some were able to get to oxygen masks before they ran out of oxygen to breath, and eventually they were able to collect oxygen and store it.
Even still, things got BAD. See, a planet without air has a deadly gas called nitrogen instead. It's a painful story because nitrogen is the gas that killed so many people before they could reach gas masks, and what's worse, the sun cooked most of the plants and animals on the planet, and left everything like what the old folks call deserts.
About 15 years after the disaster an old hermit tried to show a kid how to start a fire with a match, and it triggered a huge explosion. Soon we discovered that the hermit was not alone with the fire bit. It was happening all over the land killing hundreds of people who survived the lack of oxygen.
Eventually we were able to leave our hand-made metal “environments” for a short time and go exploring. We discovered that there were still some places that water could be found from under ground, which meant that some oxygen was still reachable, so we were able to start a new life. My grandfather was the first to go outside and come back alive, but he died a few years ago. He died at a very old age, though not according to him. He died at the age of 56, but he always said that people used to live to the age of 100. I think that he was just pulling our legs as it were.
I don't think there are many people left on the earth, maybe a couple hundred or so, I'm not sure. We survived because we didn't light fires, but used our warm jackets and worked to develop better stations where the oxygen and warmth could be used more efficiently. Some people say that the atmosphere can reuse itself, make itself new, but others just don't believe that humans have a chance. If the atmosphere were to regenerate, I'm sure that humans would treat it better than before, like making sure not to use those "automobile" things of old. There’s a chance we may get to prove that eventually. I know for sure that animals are coming back to life. I just found a little animal, with four legs and a stubby tail. It looks real cute, too, always wagging it’s tail the way it does. I think that grandpa used to call those animals "dogs", and he said they used to make up names for them, as if they were part of the family. (I think that my dog looks like a "Seth", don’t you?)
