A Blossom In Time

by Vivian Zerebeski

My first, my pride and joy
How I glowed when you arrived
Many nights of crying and nurture
Though contentment I derived

With spring came smiles & laughs
You crawled & climbed & walked
Loved to play for hours
Then you talked & talked & talked

You made a house in boxes
On Dad's shoulders "I Know" you'd sing
In the pond you fell and out you climbed
In four shoes you played "The Thing"

You counted money with Dad
And read and read and read
Then you started school
And played under your loft bed

A special bundle arrived
Your knees shivered with joy
You changed her diapers carefully
For "she" wasn't another toy.

We moved to the prairies
Where you learned to ride your bike
Close to Gramma and Grampa
Lo & behold here comes another tyke!

To read with and play with
A little sister much like you
A special bond of kinship
What you did, she did too

We laughed & cried thru many trials
The talks got much longer
Though sometimes dramatic
Thru it all you grew stronger

My little girl is all grown up
The blossom has opened wide
A heart full of love and beauty
I’m proud to walk by your side.
