Hope Endures

by Rachelle Estar Lietz

There’s a kind of hope

Keeps holding on

Against all odds

We blunder on

When clouds of tears

Hide the light

And broken hearts

Make us fight

When life’s too much

Love disappears

Words are weapons

That beat our ears

Our friendship’s gone

And money’s tight

We’ve lost our way

Can’t get it right

There’s a kind of hope

That still won’t die

When all we do

Is scream and cry

When I’ve moved out

And we’ve moved on

And all our dreams

Seem so far gone

Fear and pain

Won’t go away

Try as I might

I’m still afraid

The nights are long

The days won’t end

And all I want

Is my best friend

There’s a kind of hope

That sees us through

The darkest times

To a day that’s new

When the past is done

And we’ve both grown

We’ve left behind

The pain we’d known

We start over

And learn once more

To find that love

We had before

Healed hearts

And mended minds

We find our souls

Intertwined

There’s a kind of hope

Stronger than love

Bigger than trials

Hope from above

We cling to this

And find a way

To look beyond

Our struggles today

To a future we see

Through faith assured

By those who’ve tried

And God’s great word

We’re not alone

And we’ll not fall

Together we’ll stand

Through it all
