Animal's Sorrow

by Mike McTavish

The bird flies high
In the sky she does go
The swoop, the leap
The attack from below
The enemies clash in a heap
A baby's cry
As his mother leaps into the sky
But, the pain
The sorrow
The great gain
For the creature below
Too late
Too slow
It couldn't have been fate
It was only the foe
The jealousy
Of the bird far away
Black and white I do see
But the baby cannot stay
To see his mother die
Is excruciating pain
The steer of destruction
From the war of the tame
He would give anything
To see his mother again
But he gained wisdom from that pain
And he knows
That some day
He too may bring sorrow
